TWENTY-FOURTH DAY

THE INTERPRETATION OF CHRIST,

THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

            Ques. Why is this writing given through me?

            Ans. Because you are fitted for this work. All men have not the same strength or the same weakness. You fear becoming superstitious. You doubt us; but if you will persevere in right ACTION, in exacting from yourself a more and more perfect love to all around you, a more and more perfect desire for, and fulfillment of God’s will in the highest measure you can see it expressed; your knowledge and love must grow, and the unspeakable privilege of helping others shall be yours.

            You have set store on gold and riches even in your help to others, because your faith in gold and riches is greater than your faith in God. Thus it is with many.

            Yes, you must write for us, and fear not.

            (In answer to a question.)

            Ye cannot love God, that is, love the life which transcends matter, yet cling to the material things of earth which all riches and possessions constitute. “Ye CANNOT serve God and mammon.” There is no value in these things, because there is only correspondence to them in man’s bodily or outer form, and therefore there is no enduring happiness in their possession. There is the satisfaction of sense which changes form and perishes; but there is not the satisfaction of spirit which endures as your true individualities and takes various shapes in your earth-lives. When man has grasped the fact that he is an outcome of God, a return to God, an expression of the spiritual as well as of (its emanation) the material universe, he must perforce place the spiritual first, and use the material only to subserve the ends of the spiritual. To this end, the strengthening within you of the recognition or vision of the spiritual, we work and shall work, that the glorious interpretation of Christ’s Gospel, and its fulfillment in your lives, may complete the second or spiritual advent of Christ on earth.

            The material manifestation of Christ on earth, the material interpretation of Christ, the clinging by men to Christ’s material body and sufferings, to his blood as blood, to his life as earth life, must have preceded this spiritual advent, and both are foretold throughout your Bible, and by Christ himself.
