OUSELEY, Gideon Jasper Richard. The Gospel of the Holy Twelve; Known Also as the Gospel of the Perfect Life. Edition called the Fifth Edition, based on the last living edition of the Rev. Ouseley (March 1904), with an appendix by Samuel H. Hart, “In Memory of the Rev. G.J.R. Ouseley”, written in 1952. This Fifth Edition dates from 1954.
Information: This is the most well known book that was written by the Rev. Ouseley. In his “Explanatory Preface” we find the following passage, which gives us an idea about the decisive importance attributed by the Rev. Ouseley to Anna Kingsford and Edward Maitland in connection with this book:
“In this community (Essenians) Jesus, and His cousin John were brought up from childhood (…) Their “Gospel of the Holy Twelve” was communicated to the Editor, in numerous fragments at different times, by Emmanuel Swedenborg, Anna Kingsford, Edward Maitland, and a priest of a former century, giving his name as Placidus, of the Franciscan Order. By them it was translated from the original (Aramaic), and given to the Editor in the flesh, to be supplemented in their proper places, where indicated, from the “Four Gospels”, revised where necessary by the same.”
